Testimonials
“I have always considered creating the best and safest product I can, to be a primary goal for my effort. This presentation brought home just how important these issues are and has encouraged me to be aggressive in communicating product safety concerns.
Why? I often find “Management vs. Engineering always occurs (Management usually wins).”
“One of the most interesting topics that was covered in today’s presentation was on the ‘Discussion on the Challenger accident.’ “
Please provide any other comments that you would like to pass on to organizers of this program to assist in future program planning.
“The video segments were very helpful, but the Challenger one raises a key issue that should be addressed, not just glossed over (i.e., The one-way communication down the chain and blockage of upward communication, which is supported by the corporate culture here, as well as at most other companies.)’
“Everyone needs to hear this presentation. It needs to be videotaped and made available to out-of-plant employees (vacation, site, etc…) and overseas as well.”
“Examples used in videos/hypotheticals were very helpful in showing risks/ safety/liability.”
“I would like to think that our company does not bend to customer pressures like in the “Challenger” video. But it makes you question whether we are doing all we can with regards to safety.”
How did today’s presentation change the way you will perform your job duties?
“I think (hope) it will make all employees aware that information is not only power but liability”
“It gave me the ideas and phrases to talk to my group about improving their awareness of building in safety”
“Be more formal about carefully documenting and disseminating information about performance and safety issues”
“Awareness will help ensure more care in preparation of documents, presentation material, etc…”
“Now I realize everything in this plant is my ‘job’”
“I will try to adjust my documentation proceedings.”
What topics and issues covered in today’s presentation were of the most interest to you and why?
“Documenting any concerns pertaining to safety or informing the customer of potential misuse of product or problems. Why? From personal experience, when subjects were brought to the attention of the higher ranks job security becomes an issue instead of open discussion. This company needs a secure channel of communication.”
“Methods to address issues - Most difficult task internally is to motivate change.”
“Financial risks due to design changes/work-around that might not be the best decisions.”
“I would like to be involved in trade-off decisions on cost verses design.”
